🚨I’ll be on at 8:30 a.m. ET🚨
Come see my No. 1 strategy for trading the open — before the open. I’ll walk you through what needs to line up before I consider a trade, how I approach the setup and what I’m looking for once the bell rings and more [tap to join us]!
There’s a predictable pattern when massive technology companies go public — and most traders miss it completely.
SpaceX (SPCX) went public on June 12, then moved higher for three sessions. That early strength looked encouraging, but the Sept. 16 high also marked a significant liquidity event for major technology stocks.
I’ve been examining what that pattern could mean for Anthropic’s expected public-market debut. I love Claude and think it’s a phenomenal product, but there’s a trading reality we need to discuss when companies of this magnitude attract enormous amounts of capital.
The SpaceX Blueprint
The SpaceX offering followed a familiar sequence. Anticipation built, institutions freed up capital and momentum traders crowded into the new listing. Shares climbed for a few sessions before the broader technology market came under substantial pressure.
That does not mean one IPO automatically causes a market sell-off. However, the timing illustrates how a massive listing can become a liquidity event, particularly when positioning is crowded and technology valuations are elevated.
This is what I mean by a liquidity crunch. Funds do not have unlimited cash sitting on the sidelines. To participate in a massive offering, institutions may reduce existing positions, delay other purchases or rebalance portfolios. When many funds do that simultaneously, selling pressure can spread through large-cap technology stocks, growth names and the Nasdaq 100 (QQQ).
The important question is not simply whether the newly listed company rises. Traders also need to ask where the money required to buy those shares is coming from.
Why Anthropic Could Have a Bigger Impact
I believe Anthropic could command a larger valuation at its IPO than SpaceX did. If that happens, the resulting capital-allocation shift could be even more significant.
Institutions seeking exposure may need to sell other artificial intelligence or technology holdings. Excitement could lift related stocks before the debut as investors position for the offering. Once Anthropic begins trading and that capital is deployed, those same areas could face a post-event pullback.
That would not change Anthropic’s long-term potential. A strong business can still experience short-term weakness after its debut, just as related stocks can decline when liquidity moves elsewhere.
Watch the hype cycle, the strength of technology stocks leading into the offering and the market’s reaction during the first several sessions. If Anthropic’s valuation exceeds SpaceX’s, pay particular attention to weakness in other high-growth names.
The market has a way of repeating these capital-flow patterns — and traders who recognize them early can gain a significant edge.

P.S. Is Gamma the Missing Piece for Us?
As I’m sure you know, the market has spent the last two months chopping sideways with very little direction.

So I’ve been looking closely at all of my strategies for ways we can adapt and find stronger opportunities in this kind of market…Â
And one area I’ve wanted to dig deeper into is gamma exposure and how we can potentially use it to improve our trading.
That’s why at 1 p.m. ET on Friday, I’m bringing in gamma expert Kane Shieh for a special members-only masterclass.
My assistants Flo and Jason will be joining me, along with Nate Tucci and his members, as we learn how gamma exposure works and how we may be able to apply it to our trades.

If you’re already a member, you’re invited!!Â
If you’re not, you can get access by joining our Opening Playbook VIP list for just $1.
That $1 turns you into a paying member and gets you access to Friday’s masterclass. We’ll post the login information inside the Opening Playbook Members Area.
So if you want to better understand gamma exposure and how it could help uncover stronger trade opportunities…
Then I better see you Friday at 1pm ET!!
