When you really step back and look at the setup, it’s hard to see a scenario where the Magnificent 7 stops dominating.
Whether we move into a more heavily regulated environment or swing the other direction toward deregulation and free markets, these companies are built to win either way.
In a regulatory-heavy setup, they’re positioned perfectly. They can weather taxes, absorb new compliance costs and still maintain a competitive advantage. They’ve got the capital, the resources and all the relationships in Washington, D.C. to navigate those waters better than anyone else.
The regulatory environment actually ends up helping them because it puts pressure on the smaller players who can’t keep up.
Now flip it — go to the other extreme. Say we open up the floodgates to free trade and lower regulation. Who’s going to move the fastest, make the best acquisitions, leverage new partnerships and pour cash into R&D?
It’s the Mag 7 again…
They’ve already proven they can outspend and outmaneuver everyone else when the opportunity is there.
Dominance in Both Tail Scenarios
This is the part that not enough people are talking about. These companies have the edge in both tails of the curve — in both a heavy-handed government environment and a wide-open free market. That’s not common. Most companies benefit from one or the other.
But the Mag 7? They’ve got both ends covered.
Take trade policy. If we open up manufacturing with China, Taiwan or Mexico, they’re going to strike the best deals. If we restrict trade and force everything back into the U.S., they’re still going to be the ones best equipped to handle the reshoring costs.
It’s this kind of structural advantage that gives them the ability to keep taking market share. And it’s one of the reasons I don’t see this trend slowing down in the short or medium term. Whether we get a regulatory crackdown or a free market wave, they win.
That’s the game they’re playing — and they’re winning it in every scenario.
