What To Watch While I’m Away

by | Jul 16, 2025

Add these top stocks to your watchlist.

By the time you’re reading this, I’m probably somewhere along I-20 — either halfway through Louisiana or getting ready to cross into Texas.

(If you missed yesterday’s note, I’m on a 1,300-mile drive out to Colorado and officially off the grid for the next 10 days.)

But just because I’m not staring at charts doesn’t mean I’ve stopped paying attention.

When I’m away from the screens, I don’t try to follow every tick or trade.

Instead, I rely on something a little simpler: pivot numbers.

Think of them as mental mile markers. They give me a quick read on whether the market is drifting higher, starting to break down, or just chopping sideways.

Here’s what I’ll be glancing at when I get a chance to peek at the tape from the road:

  • S&P 500 futures (/ES): 6,300
  • Gold (/GC): 3,350
  • Crude Oil (/CL): 65
  • Copper (/HG): 5.50
  • Bitcoin (BTC): 115,000
  • Bonds (/ZB): 112

If we’re trading above those levels? I’m thinking long bias.
Below them? I’m thinking short.

It’s not a magic trick — but it is how I stay grounded when I’m away from the action. Especially with PPI today and then Retail Sales, and earnings season all ramping up while I’m gone.

So if you’re trading this week and next, just keep those pivots in mind.

They’ve served me well — whether I’m at the desk or somewhere in the middle of Kansas with spotty reception.

I’ll be back the week after next.
Until then…

Stay sharp,
— Geof
