Alex’s Overnight POET Win and What It Teaches

This trade was right on target

On the latest Profit Panel, Alex Reid took a small, defined-risk shot in POET calls late in the day after fresh order flow showed up.

The idea was simple: when you see urgency near the close and the chart isn’t stretched, a tiny overnight bet can pay quickly if price follows through at the open.

This morning, that follow-through arrived — fast. Here’s the lesson set for home-based traders:

  • Why late-day matters: End-of-day buying often signals “we want this on before tomorrow.” That’s different from random mid-day noise.
  • Keep the risk capped: A single call (or a tight call spread) keeps the max loss small and known up front.
  • Have an exit before entry: If you get the pop at the open, you don’t debate — you take the win (at least on part of the position) within the first hour unless price action keeps confirming.

How we’d reuse it:

  1. Only act when the late-day flow and the chart agree.
  2. Size as a test (small enough that a full loss doesn’t sting).
  3. If the open doesn’t confirm, step aside. Cash beats hope.

Bottom line: overnight gains aren’t magic, they’re process. See the urgency, keep the risk tiny, and be ready to ring the register early.

Quick hits from Friday’s show

  • Triple Threat preview (0DTE credit spreads): Jeffry Turnmire shared how his alert rules work and why he targets a simple “close half at 50%” style outcome on many signals.
  • Stop-loss talk on spreads: High-probability credit spreads can look “down” mid-day without being near the risk line. That’s why both Jeffry and I focus on structure and distance to the short strike — not just P&L swings.
  • Why I like NDX for late-day premium: Index spreads with European-style settlement (like NDX) avoid early assignment and can offer richer credits at the same delta than smaller ETFs.
  • Housekeeping wins: MP tagged a 100% target on a good-to-close order; IBM’s debit spread stayed on track with theta helping into mid-month; OPEN and SMCI were walked through with the simple “plan the exit before the entry” approach.
  • Late-day flow to overnight: Alex put on POET calls near the close based on fresh order flow. Same rule as always—small size, defined risk, and take profits early if the open confirms.
