My community members keep asking whether I have a crystal ball, a magic wand or a secret bag of unicorn dust hidden in my trading desk.
The truth is simpler — and more powerful. I’ve learned to recognize the same patterns appearing in the market again and again. They show me the most likely path for prices, which is why I can identify key levels with such consistency.
Does the ideal path work every time? Of course not. The market may follow it roughly 70% of the time, then choose another path the remaining 30%. Trading is about using that probability while preparing for either outcome.
Why the 61.8% Retracement Level Matters
One of my go-to tools is the 61.8% retracement level. Derived from the Fibonacci sequence, it marks 61.8% of a prior price move. Traders watch it because markets frequently retrace a meaningful portion of a rally or decline before resuming the larger trend or reversing direction.
Think of the 61.8% retracement as a decision zone, not a magical number. When it aligns with resistance, support, my Market Roadmap line or a wave pattern, it can reveal where buyers or sellers are likely to respond.
Gold recently provided a clear example. Measuring from June’s lowest low to the highest high from roughly two weeks earlier placed the 61.8% retracement near the first move down.
After gold bounced, the recovery stopped just shy of that same retracement zone. The pattern identified a probable reaction area before price reached it.
Netflix (NFLX) offered another organized setup. Its rally moved directly into resistance, tagged the target and sold off. That can look like magic in real time, but it is simply pattern recognition supported by disciplined measurement.
Patterns Need Context and Risk Control
Now, technical levels do not exist in a vacuum. Macroeconomic forces can affect whether support holds, resistance breaks or volatility expands.
Nearly $500 billion of AI-related debt has reportedly been issued in 2026, for example. That level of borrowing can reshape liquidity, interest-rate sensitivity and investor appetite across technology and the broader market.
When evaluating AI-related companies, I am not interested only in revenue generated before the cranes arrive and new infrastructure is built. I also want to watch the cash flow after that spending.
Debt obligations eventually matter, and changing fundamentals can alter the path even when a technical setup initially looks ideal.
That’s why risk management is nonnegotiable. All trading involves substantial risk of loss. I never assume a level must hold simply because the pattern is strong. Before entering, I want a defined invalidation point, an appropriate position size and a plan for taking profits or reducing exposure.
I have learned that discipline matters most when a setup fails. The goal is not to defend a prediction. It is to protect capital, accept when the market chooses its 30% path and remain ready for the next opportunity.
Patterns create an edge, but an edge is not a guarantee. Stay cautious, respect your levels and always have a plan.

I’ve been at this trading thing with real money for 20-plus years, and started paper trading over 35 years ago. I have a knack for making some epic predictions that just may very well come true. Why share them? Because I like helping other people — it’s the Eagle Scout in me.
