I’m Dumping My Semiconductor Winners for This Faster Horse

You know what I realized while watching an old western on vacation?

The hero is being chased by a posse. He’s riding one horse hard, really hard, but he has a fresh horse running alongside him on a tether.

He doesn’t slow down when the first horse tires. He switches. He jumps onto the fresh one and keeps going.

The guys chasing him can’t keep up.

That is exactly how I think about my tech portfolio.

I am heavy into semiconductors right now, long positions, puts for income, everything. But I do not just buy and hold blindly. I compare performance across my high flyers to figure out which one is the fastest horse.

And right now, I found my faster horse: Western Digital (WDC).

The Framework: How I Find the Real Horse

Here is how I do it. I start with a decent sized tech portfolio that I buy and hold as long as it is trending, then I get systematic.

I compare WDC against Vertiv (VRT), KLA Corporation (KLAC), Lam Research (LRCX), and Applied Materials (AMAT), all considered high flyers in the semiconductor space.

But I do not just eyeball it. I want to know how each one stacks up across meaningful timeframes.

I look at six months, then nine months, then one year. I am asking one question: Which is the highest of the high flyers?

Because here is the thing, I love all the other names, they are good and they are making money. But when I look at WDC’s chart, it is a beast, absolute beast.

Even when I stack it up against Broadcom (AVGO) or Nvidia (NVDA), WDC keeps showing relative strength in the areas that matter most for momentum continuation.

Switching Horses Mid Ride

So what do I do when I find a faster horse?

I switch.

I get off the horse I have been riding hard and get on the fresh one. That does not mean I abandon everything else, but it does mean I am reallocating capital toward the names showing the strongest comparative performance.

And by the way, Seagate Technology (STX) also emerged as a faster horse during this analysis. Same process, same discipline, same logic.

I am not chasing every move. I am following a repeatable process.

Compare your holdings. Look across multiple timeframes. Find the real horse. Then ride it while it is still fresh.

Because the market does not care how hard you have been riding the last one. It only cares which one can still run.
