Hey folks,
You probably know Germany hasn’t exactly been a fan of nuclear energy in recent years.
After the Fukushima disaster, they shut their reactors down and leaned hard on alternatives like natural gas — a lot of it from Russia. But guess what?
That dependence on Russian energy became a real problem after the invasion of Ukraine — and it pushed Germany (and much of Europe) to rethink how vulnerable their energy strategy really was.
So things in Germany are changing. Fast.
Now they’re partnering with France — a longtime nuclear supporter — and planning to restart their nuclear energy program. That’s a big pivot… and a big signal.
Because here’s the thing: nuclear energy isn’t just “back” — it’s been quietly gaining traction for a while now.
As I spoke about a month ago, the U.S. military is already deploying small modular nuclear reactors to power bases.
And energy experts have been pointing out for a while now that AI data centers, EV charging networks, and industrial reshoring efforts are all going to need stable, around-the-clock power — the kind nuclear provides best.
Demand for uranium has been steadily climbing as more countries embrace it as a clean, stable baseload power source.
But this Germany news throws gas on the fire.
Uranium prices have already had a major run. But if Europe’s largest economy suddenly re-commits to nuclear power — and starts buying up supply again — it tightens the market even more.
And this isn’t happening in a vacuum.
We’ve got global energy pressures, geopolitical instability, and a whole lot of countries trying to figure out how to hit clean energy targets without blowing up their power grids.
Nuclear checks a lot of boxes, and the uranium sector’s already a small pond.
When big players start jumping back in, the ripples turn into waves… fast!
I’ll be watching closely to see how this unfolds — and how it feeds into some of the uranium-related names I track.
I just covered this and more in my free bi-weekly Market Radar session.
