There’s a simple way I’m thinking about the Nasdaq right now, and it comes down to two specific price levels that tell me whether the bulls or bears have the upper hand.
If we stay below these thresholds, I think the market structure shifts decisively toward the downside. And the correction scenarios that open up aren’t small — we’re talking about a 16% to 27% pullback from the highs.
Let me walk you through exactly what I’m watching and why these levels matter so much.
The Critical Thresholds: 30,000 NDX and $740 QQQ
Here’s how I’m framing this: If the Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQ) stays below $740 and the Nasdaq 100 Index (NDX) remains below 30,000, I think the bears have the upper hand.
NDX is also not far from its prior low around 28,700 to 28,800. If the index sweeps that area, forms a lower high and then prints another lower low, the next logical move could be a return to the summer support level. That sequence would reinforce the bearish structure rather than signal a routine dip.
The QQQ setup follows the same logic. As long as it remains below $740, my bias is that it continues slipping lower. The first major area I’m watching is the 200-day moving average. If that fails to attract sustained buying, QQQ could revisit its summer low.
Previous resistance can become support after a breakout, so QQQ may find buyers around $640. Even that would represent a meaningful correction of roughly 16% from the highs. If selling accelerates and the March low comes into play, the decline could reach approximately 27.5%.
What Happens Next
This isn’t about calling a crash or predicting disaster — it’s about recognizing when market structure has shifted and positioning accordingly. The progression matters…
A failed recovery, a lower high and a break beneath the prior low would each add evidence that sellers remain in control.
I’m also watching the Direxion Nasdaq 100 Equal Weighted Index Shares (QQQE), which appears to be forming a head-and-shoulders pattern. It hasn’t broken the neckline yet, so the pattern isn’t confirmed. Still, the setup looks toppy and suggests the broader market may need to find better footing before it can sustain another move higher.
These aren’t arbitrary levels. They mark structural areas where the market has previously found support or resistance. Staying below them tells me the bears have control until price proves otherwise.
I’m not forcing trades in either direction — I’m watching these thresholds and letting the market reveal which scenario is unfolding. That’s how you stay patient and avoid getting chopped up in uncertain conditions.
I’ll see you in the markets.
