Why I’m Moving From Active Trading to Generating Income

🚨 I’ll be live at 1 p.m. ET🚨

Of all the tickers to trade, there are just three right now that are REALLY worth watching [tap to join us]!

I’m about to tell you something that might surprise you…

After nearly four decades of hunting setups, managing positions and watching charts, I’ve made a decision about my own money that represents a fundamental shift in how I think about building wealth.

I don’t want to trade for my money forever.

Trading has been good to me. It’s created opportunities, taught me discipline and helped me grow accounts. But as I look at the endgame, I’m transitioning a portion of my capital into income-focused investments designed to pay me every month.

This isn’t about abandoning trading. It’s about building a different kind of position — one that can generate income whether I’m watching the screen or not.

The All-or-Nothing Trap

Traders often wait for the perfect moment to shift from trading to ownership. They’re building stacks, waiting for the ideal down payment or looking for a flawless market entry.

But you don’t need to wait for perfection. You can buy as little as one share at a time and start becoming an owner.

Economic indicators help explain why that matters. Think of the Consumer Price Index as a speedometer: It tells you how quickly the cost of everyday goods and services is changing.

But conventional inflation measures don’t fully capture rising asset prices or the widening gap between people who own assets and those who don’t.

That’s one reason I’m shifting some capital toward ownership…

I’m putting money into income-focused funds such as the Global X MLP ETF (MLPA), NEOS Nasdaq-100 High Income ETF (QQQI), JPMorgan Nasdaq Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPQ) and JPMorgan Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPI). These funds are designed to provide income while I continue building my stack, though distributions can change and aren’t guaranteed.

Income-focused funds aren’t the only path. Broad-market investments such as the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI), SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) and Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQ) can also provide long-term exposure to corporate ownership.

They have volatility and require an appropriate time horizon, but the strategic idea matters more than perfect timing.

Why Income Ownership Changes the Game

These aren’t flashy trades and they aren’t going to double overnight. They’re about building something that can compound while I’m doing everything else.

Maybe you already own a home but lack equity ownership. Maybe you’ve traded successfully but haven’t built a position that pays you consistently. Either way, you don’t have to choose between being a trader and an investor.

You can protect your cash flow, maintain a trading account and gradually direct part of your gains toward long-term assets. The goal isn’t to eliminate risk — it’s to avoid relying entirely on your next trade.

Asset ownership changes how the economy lands on people. Rising prices feel different when you also own assets that may produce income or appreciate over time. Ownership doesn’t guarantee stability or returns, but it can give you another engine working alongside your active income, like I do with running the Turbo Wheel.

The question isn’t whether you should be an investor or a trader — it’s whether you’re using your trading success to build ownership that works for you when you’re not working for it.

That’s where I am now. And it’s worth thinking about where you are too.
